Abstract:
Discusses escape from the Navahrudak ghetto as depicted in eyewitness accounts, literature, films, and in museum exhibitions. In 1943 a tunnel was dug by prisoners of the Nowogrodek ghetto (then in Poland, now Belarus). Ca. 250 people made their way out of the ghetto through this tunnel; 150 of them survived the war in the family camp of the Bielski brothers. The entrance to the tunnel was discovered in 2007, and there is a plan to turn it into a museum.
