Abstract:
The first postwar decade saw an increase in official antisemitism in the USSR, including in Belorussia. It was manifested in the realm of culture, in particular in the form of a "struggle against cosmopolitanism". In 1949 a judicial case against some Belorussian Jewish writers was staged, in which the defendants were accused of Jewish nationalism. Other common accusations against Jews included economic crimes and contacts with the West and with the State of Israel. At the same time, persecutions of the Jewish religion began throughout the republic. The "Doctors' Plot" case of 1953 also affected the Jews of Belorussia.
