Abstract:
This article describes four censuses, made in the years 1738-1806, kept in the archives of the Jewish Community of Leghorn. These censuses, in addition to those published in the years 1809 and 1841, are an import- ant tool to study the demographic evolution of the Jewish community of Livorno through a century crucial to its history and development. Based on the surnames and on the number of individuals recorded in the censuses, a quantitative analysis is carried out in order to estimate indicatively the movements to and between the various surveys.
