Abstract:
Disagrees with the view of many Italian historians, especially that of Renzo de Felice, who state that, regarding the persecution of the Jews, Italian fascism cannot be compared with Nazi fascism, even during the Italian Social Republic. Under the Nazi occupation of northern Italy, the Italian system of concentration camps, built by Mussolini between 1940-43, was put to the disposition of the Nazis. The roundup, detention, and deportation of 8,000 Jews (as well as thousands of political dissidents) was only possible with the active and direct participation of the fascist police and militia.
