Abstract:
Armenians and Jews share a similar historical experience; both feel that they were uniquely chosen as bearers of a religious message and, as minorities, they are subject to persecution. This parallel was appreciated by Jews, who expressed sympathy for the Armenians following the massacres in 1915, and by the Armenians who supported Jewish causes. Jewish scholars have expressed different views in regard to comparison of the Holocaust with the Armenian genocide. Dadrian contends that both genocides developed through similar stages, becoming more extreme as the defenselessness of the victims became apparent, and both of the aggressors (the Turks and the Nazis) were intent on achieving a "final solution". States, however, that although genocides have universal features, each people feels that its experience was unique.
