Abstract:
Presents an English version of the extant pages of a diary by Gabik Heller (pp. 24-59), originally written in Yiddish, covering the period February, August, and September 1943. Heller was a young man who worked together with Herman Kruk in the ghetto library. The diary describes the atmosphere during the last year, when the ghetto saw several Nazi "actions", deportations to labor camps in Estonia, and an uprising attempt. The introduction (pp. 15-24) describes events in the Vilna ghetto in 1943 and the personality of Gabik Heller.
