Abstract:
Analyzes the structure of Lanzmann's film which has been compared to a musical composition with certain repetitive themes, presented by perpetrators, victims, and spectators. Lanzmann's main aim was to recreate and understand the Final Solution itself, its roots in historical antisemitism, and in the psychological attitudes of people like the antisemitic Polish peasants and the Germans with their dehumanization of language. The last part of the film deals with the topic of resistance.
