Abstract:
Thousands of Jews of the Baltic states were killed by local Nazi collaborators during World War II. Some of them were punished by the Soviets after the war, but many others evaded punishment. To date, not a single Baltic Nazi war criminal has been prosecuted, let alone punished, in the wake of Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian independence. Despite the law enacted in Lithuania in 1990 which forbade the granting of pardons to those who had participated in genocide, and despite President Brazauskas's promise to prosecute such persons, Nazi murderers continue to live in Lithuania unprosecuted.
