Abstract:
Presents several widely known reasons why the uprising did not occur before April 1943, including lack of information on the mass killings and inability of the ghetto Jews to believe it, Nazi terror which paralyzed the will to act, fear that such an act would precipitate the annihilation of the Jews, and the lack of weapons and military training. Notes two other main issues which are generally not mentioned: the starvation conditions, due to which the majority could not even think of revolting because they had no energy; and the fact that as long as families were together, until the summer of 1942, the young people had to take care of their parents and grandparents; after the Great Deportation, they had nothing more to lose.
