Abstract:
Discusses political changes in the 1980s and in Argentina today, and their influence on Jewish life, focusing on the antisemitic aspects. Mentions anti-Jewish incidents and the abuse of freedom of the press by Jew-haters, especially by many far-right periodicals which have, however, a limited audience. Remarks, also, on positive developments, such as the elimination of anti-Jewish incitement on the part of the government and efforts to improve the anti-discrimination laws. Notes the implications of Nazi war criminals sheltered in Argentina and the debates on their extradition, as well as the vulnerable position of the Jewish community in the context of a sharp economic crisis and the risks of a rising nationalist trend.
