Abstract: Throughout the period of the German occupation of Poland, anti-Jewish propaganda was a mainstay of the Nazi propaganda efforts. The antisemitism pervasive in Polish society from the prewar period offered German propagandists a common ground with the local population who were otherwise deeply hostile to the Germans. The Nazis used stereotypes already extant in Poland, e.g. identification of the Jews with communism and the Soviets. This common frame of reference allowed the Nazis to conduct an anti-Allies campaign as an extension of the "struggle against world Jewry". In a country where illiteracy was prevalent, the Nazis were especially prone to use visual forms of propaganda, such as posters, films, and exhibitions. Many Polish artists and writers collaborated with the Nazis in creating antisemitic propaganda, and most Poles did not see any conflict between their hatred of the occupiers and their participation in the anti-Jewish campaign.
