Kurzfassung: Describes talks held between the Budapest Rescue Committee and the SS in 1944, as a result of which thousands of Hungarian Jews were saved from deportation to Auschwitz. 1,685 Jews were taken to Bergen-Belsen on the so-called Kasztner train and were kept in a special section of the camp. For $100 per capita, Eichmann agreed to deport 30,000 Hungarian Jews to Austria for forced labor. However, only 15,000 Jews were deported to the Vienna area for a wide range of work. The families could stay together, children above 12 also worked. Includes charts with data about the prisoners, their camps, types of work, employers, and the time period of forced labor, according to geographical area. Forced laborers were taken to the Gau Niederdonau and Gau Steiermark areas. Residence camps were guarded by the SS and were similar to concentration camps in terms of maltreatment. Starvation, brutal punishments, and lack of adequate health care were responsible for the loss of human lives. Out of the 15,000 Hungarian Jews deported, 2,500 died.

Kurzfassung: Pp. 7-12 describe the circumstances in which the Hungarian Jewish men and women named in the lists presented here lost their lives between November 1944-March 1945 during forced labor on fortification lines built by the German army during its retreat from the western border of Hungary and eastern Austria. The workers were former Hungarian Jewish military forced laborers who were turned over by the Hungarian army to the Todt Organization, the SS, the Gestapo, and the Wehrmacht, and Hungarian Jews who were deported, by foot, over the Austrian border and turned over to various Nazi military bodies. The lists are held by the Hungarian Military Archives in Budapest. They are interspersed with correspondence of Hungarian authorities, and Hungarian Jewish organizations and individuals, regarding the search for persons mentioned in the lists and preparation of the lists. The names are arranged according to the names of the work camps, as well as mass graves found near camps and work sites.
