Abstract:
The "Society for the Attainment of Full Civil Rights for the Jewish People in Russia", a non-party Jewish organization, existed from 1905-1907. At the founding convention of the Society in Vilna in April 1905, representatives of the Jewish intelligentsia of almost all the parties took part. Among other activities, the Society organized Jews to go out and vote for Jewish delegates in the elections to the First and Second Russian Dumas in 1906, and 12 Jews were in fact elected. The Society also obtained legal aid for Jews after the pogroms of October 1905, and demanded economic reparations. However, political polarization and contention between the members caused the Society to be abolished in 1907.
