Abstract:
JUNA (Jüdische Nachrichtenstelle) was established in 1936 by the Swiss Jewish community leadership (Schweizerischer Israelitischer Gemeindebund) in order to counter the rising tide of antisemitism. Headed by Benjamin Segalowitz from 1938, the press agency produced a four-page weekly bulletin, sent to influential papers and journals, containing news items dealing with anti-Jewish measures in and outside of Switzerland. Since Swiss censorship forbade any mention of Nazi persecutions, Segalowitz collected material on Nazi activities from already published press accounts appearing in obscure journals and which, when put together, made a strong impact.
