Abstract:
Dwells on two mass rallies condemning the Kishinev pogrom of 1903, which took place in Fort Worth, Texas, and in Atlanta, Georgia. Notes that both rallies were attended by numerous non-Jews, and that speakers stressed the fact that Jewish fundamental conceptions are identical with the principles of American democracy. The rallies were successful in raising money for the national Kishineff Relief Fund. The Atlanta rally failed, however, to prevent anti-immigrant sentiments in the city in subsequent years and the anti-Black riots of 1906. Pp. 252-255 present the opening speech of Jewish attorney Harry A. Alexander at the Atlanta rally.
