Abstract:
Argues that antisemitism in France today is characterized by charges against the Jews for "secretianism" and, increasingly since the 1980s, by competition between victims, i.e. Jews and Muslims, who are pitted against each other. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has spread or been transposed to France, and the Palestinians are often seen as fighting for the Muslims of France as well. Proponents of this view no longer perceive the extreme right as their main enemy, a fact that some on the extreme right have utilized to form an alliance between "Christians" and "Muslims" against the "Zionists". French comedian Dieudonné sets the supposedly wealthy Jews against the Blacks and Muslims ("the descendants of slaves and colonized people"), accuses the Jews of instrumentalizing the Shoah, and denies it himself.
