Abstract:
Political theology aims at criticizing structures of power and power’s claim to self-representation. On the basis of an examination of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit, this paper supports the idea that religion can be considered as a rupture in the projection of the subject’s claim to power. Such a rupture becomes especially apparent in the biblical canon and its core, the name of God, YHWH, and its New Testament equivalent, the Cross. This is impressively demonstrated in the Gospel of John and in the Revelation of John. In the final section, the paper presents the idea that the Koran and the Bible need each other to ironise their respective claims to validity and power and thus open the way to a true brotherhood of religions.
Abstract:
This series of theses is a response to the lecture of the same name given by Kurt Appel on 31 November 2020 as part of the lecture series. As theological propositions with assertoric character, they differ equally from statements in religious studies and philosophy of religion. The paper also distinguishes between the question of truth (question of validity), the soteriological question of the relationship between the religions’ claims to salvation and redemption, and the socio-ethical question of tolerance.
Abstract:
The paradigm of understanding and dialogue in the face of the world and the other, introduced by the Second Vatican Council, made interreligious encounter a new „locus theologicus“ and decisively changed the relationship of the Catholic Church to Islam. Important stages and phases of the process of change are traced. Jacque Dupuis’ approach of a theology of religious pluralism makes it possible to appreciate Islam theologically as well.
