Abstract:
Examines the writings of Margaret Fell (1614-1702), an English Quaker and a pamphleteer, in the 1650s-60s in regard to the Jews. During this period, she shifted from a view of conversionist philosemitism vis-à-vis the Jews, with intentions to convert them to Quakerism, toward increasing intolerance of Jews and Judaism. She then dropped the subject of converting the Jews, and focused on the issue of the marginal status of women within Quakerism.
