Abstract:
Between 1939-1942, Argentinian immigration authorities, alleging legal irregularities, refused in several cases to allow the disembarkation of Jewish refugees arriving on ships from Europe. The local Jewish press, in Yiddish or in Spanish ("Di Idische Tzeitung", "Di Presse", "Mundo Israelita", and "La Luz"), not only reported detailed information on these cases, but also took a combative stance. They denounced the anti-Jewish policies of the government and demanded that gestures of solidarity with the Jewish refugees be made by the authorities and the public.
