Abstract:
Examines the reflection of the memory of the Holocaust in Israel as expressed in political discourse. Identifies the attitudes of the political parties - Ahdut ha-Avodah, Herut, Mapai, Maki, and Mapam - especially during public debates concerning Holocaust-related legislation (memorials, reparations), commemoration ceremonies, the "Kasztner trial", and the public discourse related to the Judenrats. States that up to the Eichmann trial in 1961 the public discourse in Israel exhibited national and political conflicts with regard to the Holocaust memory. Sees the decision to bring Eichmann to trial in Israel as a resolve to establish a national consensus with regard to crucial issues related to the Holocaust.
