Abstract:
Discusses one of the rare references to the Holocaust in the works of the Israeli writer - in his story "Ha-siman" - which reflects his response to the Holocaust. The narrator reacts to the news announcing the destruction of his native town in the Diaspora by preoccupying himself with the celebration of Shavuoth (Pentecost) as well as immersing himself in reminiscences of Jewish life in the town before the destruction. Instead of questioning God's ways, especially with his people, the narrator reaffirms his compliance with God's commands to his people, thereby choosing the only way becoming to an Orthodox Jew.
