Abstract:
Analyzes the press caricaturization of Blum, "the most insulted man in France", from the mid-1920s to 1947. Discusses themes in the caricatures, such as the anti-patriotism of Blum, Blum as a man without a country, a communist agent, and an advocate of war. Antisemitic elements in the drawings increased significantly in the right-wing press, especially in 1937-38, expressing hostility towards Blum and the Front Populaire. Most of the caricatures appeared in journals such as "Gringoire", "L'Ami du Peuple", "Candide", and "Je Suis Partout".
