Abstract:
Contends that Shakespeare's portrayal of Shylock is not a product of antisemitism but is deliberately ambiguous. Views "The Merchant of Venice" as a satire on St. Augustine's "City of God," on the Roman Catholic sacraments in general, and on the established Church.
