Kurzfassung:
In the 1950s, particularly in Israel, many Holocaust survivors published memoirs, some describing Jewish resistance in opposition to the instructions of the Judenräte, giving the impression that most of the Jews went passively to their deaths. In the 1960s most Jewish historians, especially Raul Hilberg, upheld this view; however, Hannah Arendt also noted that the reaction of the Jews to totalitarian terror was no different from that of other groups. Since the 1970s research has shown that the struggle of the Jewish groups was different, simply because there was no option for life. Discusses international reactions to the Holocaust - in 1933-41, when German Jews could have emigrated, most countries refused to accept them because of widespread antisemitism. Discusses, also, influences of the Holocaust on Jewish theology and Holocaust denial.
