Abstract:
Analyzes Israeli Holocaust literature from the 1950s on, and especially the poetry of Dan Pagis, himself a survivor of internment camps in Transnistria. Observes two poetical modalities converging in Pagis's poems, mythification and metaphor, which respectively express strength emerging from fear and the lack of explication for what happened. For Pagis, the establishment of the State of Israel does not constitute the end of the Jewish tragedy.
