Abstract:
A paper delivered at a conference held at Aalborg University, Denmark, in 1992. Presents a philosophical exposition on the end of metaphysics, together with its Strong State and administrative control of the means of mass death, seen as the "Eternal Recurrence of Auschwitz" (ERA). The Strong State faces pockets of resistance referred to as "communities of difference." ERA is the fulfillment and end of a Christianized metaphysics of presence. Discusses the history of Christianity as state power, and states that hatred of Others (Jews, independent women, non-Europeans) is the "essential" fuel for the Christian apparatus of cultural transmission. Nazism and fascism are ongoing attempts to maintain the figurative lie - e.g. culturally induced murder - as effective deception. Gods come and go, but the cultural transmitting/displacing instrument of murder remains, because the end of philosophy remains enigmatic and compels all who are still induced to confess to feel the profound need to lie for the sake of the truth.
