Abstract: Pieter-Dirk Uys returns to the Jewish Museum Berlin with a performance inspired by desperate first ladies such as Angela Merkel, Hillary Clinton, the three wives of the president of South Africa and other women who have issues with hair. Famous for his character "Evita Bezuidenhout" who for the last 30 years has claimed the title of "the most famous white woman in South Africa". Uys has collected a chorus-line of women in this show Ń some who have been with him since the late 1970s, others who have joined through fame and notoriety. In this performance he celebrates his Jewish heritage, his Afrikaner legacy, and his fantastic legs and he hopes to remind the audience that a patriot can also be someone who protects his country from its government. On Friday, 18 February, Pieter-Dirk Uys will be awarded the 2011 Jubilee Special Teddy for personal excellence, his commitment in the fight against HIV and AIDS and for his stage alter-ego, Evita Bezuidenhout.

Abstract: FOREIGN AIDS is a journey through the minefields of South Africa today - not a fear of bombs and terrorists, but of a virus that has no cure. To Care is to Cure, but with a government not willing to confront the issue of the AIDS-pandemic, Pieter-Dirk Uys uses his weapon of mass destraction and humour, to illustrate the courage and the hope that the South African people have, the children demand, and the future expects. In the show Uys will introduce to his Berlin audience Mrs Evita Bezuidenhout, his most famous creation, as well as her sister Bambi Kellermann, Jewish-African-Princess Nowell Fine, Desmond Tutu, PW Botha and Nelson Mandela.
