Abstract:
The chronology for the divided kingdom is still disputed. The interpretation of the biblical data is complicated by the diversity of the material among and within the traditions and the fact that the calendrical principles that are applied are not indicated in the texts. The present study argues that, for Israel, the non-accession year system and the Tishri New Year are always used, whereas for Judah always the accession year system and, at first, a Nisan New Year and, beginning from the fall of Samaria, a Tishri New Year. The chronology reconstructed on the basis of the data in the Masoretic Text and the Septuagint takes into account the synchronisms with Mesopotamia and Egypt.
