Abstract:
In the year 2000, a survey called "Argentina: Actitudes hacia los judíos y el Holocausto" was conducted by the American Jewish Committee and AMIA. The results show that 50% of Argentinians do not sustain antisemitic prejudices or practices. 20-30% ascribe to certain prejudices and stereotypes, which allow for description of their attitude as diffuse antisemitism. 10-20% have opinions and practices which are clearly discriminatory. Adds that, to a certain degree, antisemitism in Argentina has to be understood as part of the xenophobia of many Argentinians, without regard to the particularities of different ethnic groups. Concludes that antisemitism appears more often in social groups with a lower level of education and income. The results of the survey are preceded by a brief history of antisemitism in Argentina (pp. 307-319).
