Kurzfassung: Traces the stages leading to the persecution and deportation of Norwegian Jews in November 1942. States that before the Nazi invasion of Norway in April 1940 there were few signs of antisemitism. Church leaders did not officially condemn antisemitism. Notes that the only protests came from the Norwegian Mission for Israel. Examines the role of Bishop Eivind Berggrav, leader of the Lutheran Church of Norway, and his lack of protest against Nazi anti-Jewish policy, due to tactical considerations. With the beginning of deportations to Auschwitz in November 1942, a protest letter was published by the Church of Norway and by the free Churches, although it was too late to affect the fate of the Jews. Explains the Norwegian Church's lack of response as the result of anti-pluralist trends and latent antisemitism in Norway. Of the 1,400 Jews living in Norway in 1940, over 700 perished in Nazi concentration camps.

Kurzfassung: The "Nazi Church" was composed of members and supporters of the Norwegian Nazi Party (founded by Vidkun Quisling in 1933) during the German occupation. Its ideology rested on three foundations: the Lutheran doctrine of the two realms (justifying submission to Nazism), anti-Bolshevism, and antisemitism. Argues that there was litte difference between the "Nazi Church" and the Church of Norway in the theological sphere. In 1942, the bishops of the Church of Norway and 93% of the clergy resigned in resistance to Nazi hegemony in the Church. But the Church of Norway, led by Bishop Eivind Berggrav, made no public protests against the persecution of the Jews except for the famed letter of November 1942 sent to Quisling following laws passed in October authorizing detention of male Jews and confiscation of Jewish property. Claims that the lack of protest was the greatest failing of Berggrav and the Church of Norway during the war years.
