Abstract:
There is overwhelming evidence that present-day anti-Israelism is a major new mutation of antisemitism. The two often overlap and frequently appear together. Exposes similarities in characteristics and motifs between anti-Israelism and the two earlier major types of antisemitism, religious and racist. Among the main characteristics of modern anti-Israelism are demonization of Israelis, a double standard applied to Israel as opposed to other countries, and delegitimization of the State of Israel. Among the main motifs are charges of deicide and depiction of Israelis as new Nazis, as well as the belief that the Jews and Israel are behind all of the world's disasters and are seeking to dominate the world. Recent violent incidents, as well as polls, attest to the fact that many people in the West who have anti-Zionist sentiments do not distinguish between the State of Israel and the Jews of their own countries.
