Abstract:
The article is divided into six parts: Prolegomena, Perspective Polyphony, Poetics of Fragment, Ghetto Topics, Individualisms, and Ghetto Shards. The first part presents Michał Głowiński’s biography, introducing the context of the ghetto. Next, drawing on authentic documents, I outline different perspectives on the ghetto as experienced by children and adults. In the following part, I identify characteristic elements of the ghetto space presented in testimonies. Then I discuss the distinctness of Głowiński’s experience in relation to other testimonies. Finally, I demonstrate how different conventions and individual styles, if put together, constitute a rich literary represenation of the Warsaw Ghetto. The images leave an indelible impression, and this can be compared to wounds leaving scars.
