Abstract:
Criticizes the thesis that there was a "political economy of the Final Solution", concentrating on the conceptions of Susanne Heim and Götz Aly. Critics of their conception note that the decision makers in Nazi Germany often ignored the recommendations of the economic experts, and, at best, used them as rationalizations for their racial and genocidal policies. The genuine motive for the Final Solution was Nazi racism. The "modernization theories" have some common flaws: besides the fact that they attempt to relativize the Holocaust, they discredit modernization as fraught with suffering and genocide in underdeveloped countries.
Note:
On debate surrounding the theories of Götz Aly and Susanne Heim.
