Abstract:
Acknowledges that passages of Matthew's Gospel have been employed against the Jews and that Matthew is anti-Judaistic in that he advocates the idea that God's covenant with Israel is no longer in effect. Argues that it is not necessarily true that Matthew is anti-Judaistic in the sense of having disdain for Jews as human beings; his words against Jews are no more severe and hate-inspiring than the words of other religious polemics of his day. Claims that tone and content similar to Matthew's can be found in contemporary writings of Jews against Samaritans and Gentiles, and in writings of Christians against pagans.
