Abstract:
Brodnitz (1902-1944 or 1945) was in danger in the Third Reich not only as a Jew but also as the owner of the Mozartsaal in Berlin, the movie theater that in 1930 screened "All Quiet on the Western Front", a film denounced by the Nazis as Jewish pacifism. He was forced to seek shelter already in the 1930s with his former housekeeper. Describes his unsuccessful efforts, especially through Fritz Lang, to obtain the promise of employment necessary for a visa to the U.S. During the war he was hidden by his housekeeper and a series of others; but he was discovered, arrested, and in September 1944 deported to Auschwitz. Conjectures that he died on the death march to Theresienstadt.
