Abstract:
Relates the history of the former Jewish hospital, home for the elderly and cemetary which were situated between 1898-1938 at Seegasse 9 in Vienna. While the Viennese authorities were intersted in the place in order to establish homes for children whose fathers served in the Wehrmacht, the cultural office first supported the opinion of the office of monument preservation that the oldest cemetary of Vienna had historical significance for the town. However, in January 1943 the German Reich took over the place, the 122 remaining residents of the old-age home were deported to Theresienstadt, and the cemetary was destroyed.
