Abstract:
On the film directed by Robert Bober, with the text and comments by Georges Perec, filmed in 1979 and broadcast in 1980. The film "Récits d’Ellis Island" has two parts: the first describes the present museum and the history of the island as a transit port for immigrants; the second part presents Perec's interviews with Jewish and Italian immigrants. Ellis Island served as an immigration center from 1892 to 1924, after which it became a detention center for problematic cases until its closure in 1954.
