Abstract: This article analyzes the aftermath of the Holocaust in Poland through the political constellation of the year 1968, interpreting the state’s antisemitic campaign as an expression of exclusionary nationalism designed to achieve homogeneity on behalf of the Polish United Workers’ Party. The student protest movement with its many Jewish protagonists, on the other hand, reflected a contrarian, universalist understanding of Polishness. Their demands for civil rights are here examined against the background of their parents’ experience of the Holocaust.
