Abstract:
Laughter and comedy, on the one hand, and the Holocaust, extermination in the Nazi death camps, on the other : don't we find there a kind of direct offence to the memory of the victims ? Tabori and Mayorga, the former with his « black farce », The Cannibals (1968), and the latter with Himmelweg (2003), are able to show us a possible synthesis : comic art about Auschwitz can and must exist ; but for it to be true, it must problematize the laughter to such an extent as to make it an almost strange fact : it must, paradoxically, cut short any satisfied humour.
