Abstract:
Discusses the trial of Jesus in view of Roman law vs. Jewish law. Contends that Jesus was tried, and ultimately convicted and crucified, solely for his having violated Roman law by acts of sedition, claiming to be the king of the Jews, whereas Rome had appointed the Herodian family to that post. Crucifixion was solely a Roman form of execution; Jewish law did not employ crucifixion, not even for crimes which were capital offenses under Jewish law. Therefore, it was not the Jews but the Romans who tried and murdered Jesus.
