Abstract:
Izbica, situated on a central railway line, served as a transit site for Jews from Poland and other countries (Austria, Czechoslovakia, Germany) who were interned for a time in the ghetto and then sent to the extermination camps Bełżec or Sobibór. The final liquidation of the Jews in Izbica took place in April 1943. Before the war, over 90% of the town's population was Jewish. Out of several thousand Jews in the town, only 14 survived the war.
