Abstract:
In 1961 King Hassan II allowed Jews to leave Morocco. The exodus that began soon after emboldened Jewish leaders to respond to anti-Jewish attacks in Moroccan periodicals. In the official organ of the Jewish community, "La Voix des Communautés", editor Victor Malka and Jewish leaders such as David Amar responded to anti-Jewish references in the Arab-language press. Contends that these references were made in relation to the internal political struggle taking place at the time between the monarchy and the opposition parties, and did not comprise a wave of antisemitism. However, this struggle only ended after most of the Jews had left the country.
