Abstract:
Describes the history of war crimes trials in West Germany and the contribution of the Zentrale Stelle der Justizverwaltungen zur Aufklärung nationalsozialistischer Verbrechen in Ludwigsburg. Comments that these trials were never popular in Germany, but helped bring about reconciliation with the peoples of the formerly occupied countries and with the victims, who were abe to see a better side of Germany in the warm hospitality they received when they came to testify. However unsatisfactory their outcomes, the trials reestablished the world's respect for Germany.
