Abstract:
Describes a new trend on the radical Right in Germany: the identificatioon of Islam with Nazism, and of the West, particularly the Germans, with the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. An Islamic conspiracy, anti-Western, antisemitic, and anti-democratic, is striving for world domination. The theoritical inspiration of this rightwing trend comes from Raddatz, a self-proclaimed expert on Islam, who has published articles in prstigious mainstream journals as well as a series of books, and is taken seriously by the media and the general public. Thus the Right legitimizes itself as close to the Cente; the view appeals to Germans who are hostile to the growing Muslim population and who see current history in terms of Huntington's "clash of civilizations" and welcome the opportunity to view themselves as victims of an imminent Islamic Holocaust instead of as perpetrators of their own historic Holocaust . But comments that elsewhere Raddatz shows himself as a traditional rightwing antisemite and alleges the existence of a Jewish world conspiracy.
