Abstract: Seifter was a Jewish-German journalist and a Polish citizen from Bielsko. He collaborated with the Germans on two occasions. First, in 1933-34, in Bielsko, he launched the weekly "Jüdische Wochenpost" whose goal was to consolidate the bonds of German-speaking Polish Jews with Germany. Seifter saw himself as an agent of the German Ministry of Propaganda whose interest was to tone down the opinions of Polish Jews regarding the Nazi regime. In 1940, the Nazi authorities in Kraków appointed Seifter as editor-in-chief of the "Gazeta Żydowska". Contends that there was no continuity in the two periods of Seifter's cooperation with the German authorities. During 1933-34, his main motive was German nationalism; in 1940, he was forced to take on the position of editor-in-chief. He did not act on his own initiative and had no illusions concerning the genocidal character of the Nazi regime; therefore, his cooperation cannot be seen as collaboration. Seifter only wanted to survive. The "Gazeta Żydowska" ceased to appear in 1942. Seifter's fate is not known, but he probably did not survive the war.
