Abstract:
Examines the role of the Wannsee Conference, which took place on 20 January 1942, in the process of the Nazi decision to carry out the Final Solution. The meeting, chaired by Heydrich with the participation of 15 important Nazi functionaries, was very short and without controversial discussions. Heydrich stressed the exclusive competence of Himmler concerning the Final Solution. The decision to annihilate European Jewry was not first taken at this meeting, since massacres of Jews were already taking place. The participants at the conference decided on the methods and dimensions of the murder, not on the principle. They accepted the planned annihilation of eleven million Jews as an administrative act.
