Abstract: Based partly on Eva Schweitzer's book "Amerika und der Holocaust" (2004), relates how eminent Americans served as models for Hitler, supported him, and profited from business with the Nazis. Hitler was inspired by Henry Ford and American eugenicists from elite universities like Harvard and Yale. Members of the political and industrial elite (Du Pont, Rockefeller, and Kennedy) pulled the strings of American fascism. Notes that antisemitism flourished in the U.S. before and during World War II. Less than 200,000 Jewish refugees were received between 1933-45, though 800,000 Hungarian Jews could have been saved in 1944. Discusses the large-scale business involvement of the Harriman and Bush families with the Nazis, as well as the Dulles brothers' role as their legal representatives. Concludes that the "secret relations" between the U.S. and Nazi Germany are taboo in America, where forces active before and during the Holocaust still affect society.
Note: Appeared previously in German in "Der Europäer" 9,4 (2005).
