Abstract:
Discusses the multifaceted interaction between ideological and practical factors in the implementation of Nazi racial policy. A hierarchical pattern of values and considerations can be deduced from the Nazi treatment of different groups (Jews, Sinti and Roma, homosexuals, the mentally ill, etc.) and factors (race, work, military effort, morality). Examines which elements and priorities lay behind unbending Nazi decisions (e.g. annihilationist antisemitism, abortion), and how Nazi policy-making dealt with cases where there was a clash of values and considerations.
