Abstract: Notes that antisemitism in the U.S. in the 1920s, including issues such as immigration restrictions, Henry Ford's anti-Jewish publications, and changes in registration at Harvard that reduced the number of Jews studying there, did not detract from overall American Jewish success. In the 1930s there was an increase in anti-Jewish prejudices, particularly concerning employment, and in anti-Jewish organizations, many of which were made up of German immigrants who accused the Jews of Bolshevism. This, too, did not detract from Jewish success. A disproportionate number of Jews were serving in the Roosevelt administration which was less antisemitic than the general population, but widespread antisemitism in the State Department prevented the rescue of thousands of European Jews. Jewish organizations had learned to use the judiciary system to protect themselves, as in the case against Henry Ford, but they could not obtain the support of other ethnic groups in order to change the immigration laws. Notes that the threat of antisemitism in the U.S. was not that great, but fears of such a threat prevented Jewish organizations from building coalitions with other ethnic groups.
