Abstract:
Analyzes antisemitic themes in the weekly magazine "Prosto z Mostu", which appeared in Poland between 1935-39. The editor-in-chief was Stanisław Piasecki, an extreme right-wing ideologue. Surveys articles in which the Jews were presented as the embodiment of evil, responsible for all that was wrong in Poland. The writers called for total isolation of the Jews from Polish society; some of them advocated physical violence against the Jews which would force them to emigrate. Some praised the anti-Jewish legislation enacted in Germany, although they did not want to be accused of promoting German racism. Instead, they promoted a psychological racism, stressing the differences between the Polish and Jewish psyche, and their incompatibility. Literary critics from "Prosto z Mostu" found in Polish literature written by Jews foreign elements, not fitting the national culture. The only solution for the future of Poland was mass emigration of the Jews.
